Share your experiences studying work and organizing in periods of confinement and social distancing

The Covid-19 pandemic transformed work and organizations as well as the methods we use for studying them. In person activities were disrupted and- when possible- organizations adopted models of hybrid or remote work. It has become harder to distinguish the spatial boundaries of an organization or to observe daily organic interactions outside virtual planned meetings. As ethnographers, we had to pause, adapt, or transform our data collection during this time. While few countries have resumed in-person activities, this is happening through new work arrangements that will require us to expand our research tools to navigate these new realities.

The goal of this blog symposium is to hear the experiences of ethnographers – from novices to old-timers – who conducted fieldwork during the pandemic, to share these experiences, and to capture them for fieldworkers of the future.

The Ethnography Atelier Blog invites researchers to send short descriptions and reflections (maximum 1,000 words) on their experiences. Here are some guidelines:

    · Keep it real. Tell us about the ups and the downs.

    · Make it interesting. We are not a journal! Write something you would like to read.

    · Write for other field workers present and future. Share your experiences and what you learned.

All blog posts must be written in an accessible style and references are not necessary. Submission deadline is December 10, 2021. Submissions will be curated by Samantha Ortiz, Ruthanne Huising, and Kathrin Sele. Please send your text to ortizcasillas@em-lyon.com.
