Abstract: Over the past 25 years, the study of organizational paradox has become an important metatheory. This symposium centers on an emergent approach to paradoxes, one grounded in a constitutive view of paradox as performances. The panelists will engage in a formal, moderated discussion of the contours of this approach, particularly its implications for the role of dialectics in paradoxes, capturing multiple embedded tensions, and centering on the sociomaterial aspects of paradoxes-namely, emotional and bodily responses, technology, and time/space. In doing so, it takes a more critical turn to situate power/resistance as central to paradox theory.
