    CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS

    STR Managing Your Dissertation Workshop

    Pre-registration Deadline: July 24th, 2024.

The STR Managing Your Dissertation Workshop will be offered at the 2024 Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management on Saturday, Aug 10 2024 10:30AM - 2:30PM CT (GMT-5/UTC-5) at Sheraton in Sheraton Ballroom III. The workshop is open to all doctoral students. The workshop offers practical advice to advanced doctoral students on completing their dissertations and transitioning to their first academic positions. Pre-registration from students is required.

The workshop will be conducted in an informal setting where students will be able to interact with faculty and other students in small groups. The finalists for last year's STR Outstanding Dissertation Award share the coordination of the workshop. These finalists are Nianchen Han (Nanyang Technological University), Hyoju Jeong (Tulane University), Leandro Pongeluppe (University of Pennsylvania), Silvia Sanasi (Free University of Bozen-Bolzano), and Jungkyu Suh (New York University).

The format of the PDW will mix plenary presentations by senior faculty followed by Q&A's, and breakout discussion groups led by last year's finalists for the STR Outstanding Dissertation Award.  The following is a list of faculty members who have agreed to participate in the workshop: Sharon Belenzon (Duke University), Alfredo de Massis (Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, IMD, and Lancaster U.), Jiao Luo (University of Minnesota), Anita M. McGahan (University of Toronto), Aseem Kaul (University of Minnesota), Jelena Spanjol (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München), and Tony Tong (University of Colorado Boulder).

If you are a doctoral student in strategy, you are encouraged to attend. Small group discussion will allow for interaction of people at similar stages. Topics to be covered include: (a) managing a dissertation committee, (b) considerations on research design, (c) practical and technical issues associated with data collection, (d) seeking a job and preparing the job talk, (e) writing and defending the dissertation, and (f) carving up the dissertation into papers for publication.

Interested doctoral students should pre-register at https://forms.gle/D5tQGAQwmhPGTM5j8. The deadline to pre-register is July 24th, 2024. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged. If you have any questions, please contact Leo Pongeluppe (pongelup@upenn.edu).
