We are pleased to announce the Professional Development Workshop (PDW) "A Temporal Perspective on Disruptive Innovation", accepted for the 2025 Academy of Management Annual Meeting.

This PDW offers a forum for scholars interested in how organizations innovate disruptively-or respond to disruption-by navigating temporality. By adopting a temporal lens, the workshop explores questions such as:

    • Temporal orientations: How do different temporal orientations (past, present, future) shape disruptive innovation, and how can organizations align stakeholder time horizons to foster coherence?
    • Pacing, granularity, and timing: How do fast vs. slow innovation trajectories, temporal granularity, and windows of opportunity influence whether innovations are perceived as disruptive?
    • Micro-practices: What micro-level practices support the emergence of disruptive innovation over time, especially in response to broader societal shifts like generative AI?
    • Reframing disruption: How can the concept of disruption be rethought from a temporal perspective?

The PDW is structured in two parts:

    • Part I is open to all AoM attendees and features keynote presentations by leading scholars, who will offer new perspectives on the relationship between time and innovation. Confirmed speakers include: Siavash Alimadadi, Hans Berends, Miriam Feuls, Andrew Hargadon, and Birke Otto
    • Part II consists of interactive roundtable discussions in which participants will receive in-depth feedback on their own research in a supportive and collaborative environment. Participation in this part is by application.

We invite scholars to submit an extended abstract (maximum 1,000 words) to be considered for the feedback sessions. Submissions are due by July 1, 2025. Selection decisions will be communicated by July 15, 2025.

Please send your abstract to: 📩 sarah.stanske@leuphana.de
