Strategy as Something that People Do
About us
Strategizing Activities and Practices (SAP) is an open and inclusive community that is devoted to fostering research into the practice of strategy. Members of this community understand strategy as something that people in organizations do rather than something that firms in their markets have. Such an interest in the doing of strategy directs our attention to the myriad day-to-day activities on the micro-level that make up strategy in practice. Yet, at the same time it calls for an appreciation of the role of the macro-level institutions in shaping these strategizing activities: Strategists do not act in isolation but draw upon the regular, socially defined modes of acting that arise from the plural social institutions to which they belong. This LinkedIn page is created to increase engagement between SAP scholars and strategy practitioners. We believe that academic research can create impact and we want to engage in conversation with practitioners who will reflect on our findings/implications/recommendation, can share their burning questions that might require further research, or find relevant for practice insights through reading our publications or attending events and webinars. We welcome academics as well as practitioners to follow this page to keep the conversation on strategy as and in practice going.

With its interest in what strategist do, the Strategizing Activities and Practices (SAP) community is uniquely positioned to discuss this year's The Strategic Management Society annual conference theme "Fault lines, contradictions, and divergences" in strategy. Make sure that you do not miss out the opportunity to join us for lively discussions, inspiring paper presentations, interesting panels and workshops on hot topics in Istanbul by submitting your paper until February 21, 2024 via https://lnkd.in/ez5Wb3k3 In line with this year's conference theme, submissions to the Strategy Practice IG could cover, but are not limited to questions such as: -How do #strategypractitioners respond to the rapidly #polarized and conflict-prone world? -In what way do they adapt their established strategy practices? -How do managers respond in contexts with different #geopolitical forces that increasingly affect organizations from all types and industries? -How do strategy practitioners manage their #relationships with #governments as customers? -Do more #inclusive and 'open' strategy practices help to deal with geopolitical forces and the related contradictions and divergences for strategy making? If so, how? -If #AI deals with the geopolitical forces (e.g., Geoquant) and #businessproblems but substitutes people in organizations, who owns and controls AI and who is accountable for its #mistakes (e.g., early, late, wrong responses, misdiagnosis of problems), or is AI infallible? -How does the widespread use of AI impact an organization's other resources and capabilities to respond to the geopolitical forces or the pursuit of purpose in addition to profit maximization? Can the inclusion of #stakeholders in strategy making mitigate such resource scarcity? If so, how? For more information about the conference, please, see https://lnkd.in/ey_nS4XE
