🌍 Advancing Strategizing, Organizing & Entrepreneuring Through African Perspectives

Africa offers one of the most vibrant and diverse arenas for studying strategy as something people do - in real time, in real contexts, through everyday activities that shape organizations, markets, and societies. For scholars committed to understanding strategizing, organizing, and entrepreneuring as practices, Africa provides a rich tapestry of routines, discourses, tools, and situated actions that illuminate how strategy emerges from the work of actors.

The Africa Academy of Management (AFAM) brings together a global community of researchers advancing rigorous, practice‑based, and context‑grounded management scholarship. Our mission aligns directly with SAP's commitment to exploring the activities, interactions, and institutional contexts through which strategy is accomplished.

Why SAP scholars will find African contexts - and AFAM's community - uniquely valuable

    • A living laboratory of strategizing practices, where managers, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and public actors engage in day‑to‑day activities that shape organizational and societal outcomes.
    • Rich opportunities to study micro‑level actions and routines, including planning practices, discursive work, tool use, and sensemaking in environments marked by institutional plurality.
    • Empirical settings that foreground agency, enabling scholars to observe how actors navigate constraints, mobilize resources, and enact strategy in dynamic and uncertain contexts.
    • A natural fit for methodological innovation, including ethnography, video‑based studies, narrative approaches, action research, and collaborative designs - all central to SAP's identity.
    • A platform for connecting micro‑activities to macro‑outcomes, such as market emergence, institutional change, inequality, and societal transformation.
    • A diverse scholarly community that values theoretical pluralism, practice‑based approaches, and deep engagement with practitioners.

AFAM complements SAP's mission by offering a space where strategizing, organizing, and entrepreneuring can be studied as lived practices - shaped by cultural norms, institutional logics, resource constraints, and the creativity of actors across the continent.

If your work seeks to understand how strategy is enacted through everyday activities, AFAM offers a powerful platform for collaboration, methodological exploration, and theoretical advancement.
