10th Process Research PDW: Novel Data and Methods in Process Research

    Saturday August 2nd

    1:00-5:00pm

    Sheraton Liberty Ballroom D

    Academy of Management Annual Meeting

    Primary sponsor: Research Methods Division

Pre-registration (see below) is required for Part 2; Part 1 open to all.

This PDW explores the collection and analysis of novel forms of data in process research. It is appropriate that, on the tenth anniversary of this PDW we take stock and reflect on process research methods through the lens of novel forms of data that have only become available to scholars relatively recently.

Part 1 (1:00-3:00 pm) will feature presentations from four scholars who have each taken novel approaches to collecting and analysing data for process research. They will offer insight into collecting and analysing electronic data, video data, and 'big data,' and will share challenges and opportunities of publishing process research based on such data in top journals.

    Presenters:

    Spencer Harrison (Boston College)

Ulrike Schultze (Southern Methodist University & Lund University)

    Curtis LeBaron (Brigham Young University)

    Russel Funk (University of Minnesota)

Comments from Andy Van de Ven (University of Minnesota)

Part 2 (3:00-5:00 pm) of the PDW will again provide participants with opportunities to present and receive feedback on their own process studies in small group discussions with past and present Process Research PDW faculty and other participants.

Part 2 group discussion leaders include: Ulrike Schultze, Curtis LeBaron, Russell Funk, Andy Van de Ven, Harry Sminia, Jaco Lok, Connie Gersick, Joanne Yates, Taryn Stanko, and Jennifer Howard-Grenville.

Pre-registration is required for Part 2 of the PDW. Potential participants should submit a 2000-word or less description of their process research project/paper using the form at: http://processresearchmethods.org/

    Part 2 pre-registration opens on May 12, 2014, and closes on June 27, 2014.
