Announcements

  • Welcome to the SAP IG on Connect@AOM!

    Hi everyone,

on behalf of the executive team, I welcome you to the Strategizing Activities and Practices Interest Group's (SAP IG) web presence on Connect@AOM. It's been a month since the IG's website and listserv migrated as part of AOM's digital strategy. According to this strategy, the Academy aims to renew and bundle the communication technologies in use. The Membership Secretary and the Social Media Committee have worked hard to make this transition as smooth as possible. Furthermore, the design of the web presence would not look as appealing as it does without the generous sponsorship by David Seidl. We thank everyone involved in making this transition look easy for their support!

We warmly invite you to visit sap.aom.org, a site that bundles essential information about the SAP IG with key communication technologies that enable you to post announcements, share events (workshop, CfP deadlines, etc.), watch SAP webinars, browse current and former SAP newsletters, and much more. Here’s a quick overview of the key features of sap.aom.org.

    Conversation
“Conversation” has replaced the former SAP Listserv. There, you can browse the SAP Listserv history and post new announcements that you would like to share with the SAP community.

    Events
“Events” is a calendar that displays relevant SAP events of different types, such as meetings, calls for papers, and workshops. If you would like to inform the SAP community about such events, you can post these events there.

    SAP Vlog
The “SAP Vlog” (Video + blog = Vlog) is a new initiative. In this series, we publish 5–10 min interviews with authors of work that has extended our understanding of the practice of strategy-making. Such interviews provide viewers with behind-the-scenes insights into the origins and developments of the ideas that these works advance, as well as retrospective reflections on the timeliness and reception of these ideas in contemporary discourses. If you would like to create and publish a vlog post, you find instructions on the respective site.

    Notification Settings
Similar to the former listserv technology, posts in “Conversation” and “Events” are sent out to all members of the SAP community via email. A key benefit of Connect@AOM over former technologies is the more fine-grained, personalized management of notification settings. This allows you to adjust the frequency and form of notifications to your individual preferences: real time (immediate email after each post), daily digest, weekly digest, no email notifications.
To check and adjust your notification settings,
    • Go to https://connect.aom.org/ and click on your profile picture
    • Click on “My Account” and select “Community Notifications”
    • Scroll down and select your notification preferences from the drop-down menu.

Connect@AOM is a collective journey. Please feel free to join the "Conversation", add "Events", and share a "Vlog”! Again, welcome to SAP's online community on Connect@AOM. Please do not hesitate to contact me for inquiries.

    Best,
    Matthias Wenzel
  • SAP IG 2019 Elections: Results

    Dear SAP members:

A big thank you to each of the candidates standing for election. I am also extremely pleased to see a high level of participation (23%) in the election, placing SAP in the upper quartile within AOM (some Divisions’ participation levels were below 10%).
Please join us in welcoming the following members to your SAP leadership group:

    SAP PDW CHAIR
    Leonhard Dobusch, University of Innsbruck

    SAP ELECTED REPRESENTATIVE: 3 YEARS
Fleur Deken, VU University of Amsterdam

    SAP TREASURER
    Carola Wolf, University of Liverpool

Further information on each candidate will be shared in the next newsletter.
I want to thank everyone who showed a willingness to serve the community by standing in the 2019 SAP elections. We had a strong slate of candidates this year, which speaks volumes for us as an interest group and our trajectory going forward. However, this also means that some outstanding candidates – and people who are central contributors to our community – will need to wait a little longer to serve. I would particularly like to acknowledge Farzad Alvi, Patia McGrath, and Krista Pettit for the commitment they have shown SAP. I am confident that they will join our leadership team in future years.
I hope to see you in Boston.

    All the best,

    Paul Spee
    Outgoing Chair, SAP Interest Group
  • SAP Listserv, Website, & Co.: Welcome to Connect@AOM!

    Hi everyone,
welcome to SAP's online community on Connect@AOM! As of today, you find the website of the Strategizing Activities and Practices Interest Group (SAP IG) as well as technologies that replace the SAP Listserv (see more below) at sap.aom.org. This technological transition is part of AOM’s digital strategy, which aims to renew and bundle the communication technologies in use.

    What is Connect@AOM?
Connect@AOM is a communication platform that aims to engage management scholars in ongoing discussions and build stronger networks among them. The platform includes social-media technologies like following others, discussion boards, etc., in order to facilitate communicative interactions even outside of the scope of the annual meetings and special conferences. However, the platform also features familiar communication technologies with enhanced functionalities.

(Some) Features of the SAP Online Community on Connect@AOM
From now on, you find much information on the practice of strategy-making at one place: sap.aom.org.
    • The SAP Online Community provides relevant information on the SAP IG: who we are, who is in charge, newsletters, governing documents, current initiatives (such as the brand-new webinar series), and so on.
    • In “Conversation“, you can browse the SAP Listserv history and add new announcements that you would like to share with the SAP Community. Similar to the Listserv technology, the SAP Community will be informed via email (see more on notification settings below).
    • In “Events“, you can post meetings, calls for papers, workshops, etc. that you would like to inform the SAP Community about. The SAP Community will also receive an email notification when new events are inserted.
    • In "Resources", you can upload files and documents (case studies, teaching material, etc.) that you would like to share with others.
    • The SAP Vlog (Video + blog = Vlog) is a new initiative. In this series, we publish 5–10 min interviews with authors of work that has extended our understanding of the practice of strategy-making. Such interviews provide viewers with behind-the-scences insights into the origins and developments of the ideas that these works advance, as well as retrospective reflections on the timeliness and reception of these ideas in contemporary discourses.
Connect@AOM is a collective journey. Please feel free to join the "Conversation", add "Events", share a "Vlog", and upload "Resources"!

    Notification Settings
One advantage of Connect@AOM over current technologies in use is the more fine-grained management of notification settings. This allows you to adjust the frequency and form of notifications to your individual preferences: real time (immediate email after each post), daily digest, weekly digest, no email notifications.
    To configure the notification options,
    1. Go to https://connect.aom.org/ and click on your profile picture
    2. Click on “My Account” and select “Community Notifications”
    3. Scroll down and select your notification preferences from the drop-down menu.

    Questions?
